Shields for Hellpoint are more than just a wall between you and the enemy, the player is presented with a wide variety of shield styles to choose from, allowing them the freedom to integrate their shield into their own personal playstyle. With offensive applications in addition to the obvious defensive applications, shield strategy can easily become far deeper than simply blocking damage.

Shields use the offhand slot, same as the firearms, so you can equip only one type at a time.

Shields are able to "Parry" enemies if you block the moment you would get hit.

If you run into enemies with your Shield up you will be able to guardbreak them.

      TL;DR

There is a "Parry" system in game, just raise your shield at the right time.

It should be mentioned that you can Stagger enemies by timing your block. It throws enemies, even the biggest, off guard, allowing for a 2 to 4 second window, depending on enemy, to attack unimpeaded.

The timing seems to be connected to the enemies attack animation, or rather the active frames of the attack. As soon the animation switches over to active frames, no matter how long it takes to hit you, if you put up your shield the moment they start, you'll throw the enemie off balance. The only attacks I can't seem to "parry" are special attacks.

An Example is the Magma Demons Scythe Sweep. It has an extremely slow Wind Up animation and a very long winded Active Frame animation to test this. Just run to ihe demons Left (right from your perspective) when the Scythe hits the ground. Thats when the active frames start. Raise your shield and run to the demons left (right from your perspective). It takes about a second to hit you with your shield raised and still gets the Stagger.
